On 24 May, I played at the ROJ Sound Music Festival at the beautiful location Ulme 35 in Berlin.
Together with the artist, harpist, composer and live streamer Mia Ramer, I played a set on the outdoor stage in the afternoon sun. We performed a couple of duets but also played a set each. Although there was a power outage just as we were supposed to go on, the volunteers and the patient and happy audience kept the mood up and soon we were able to play, effects, loops and all. It was a beautiful afternoon and I was glad to be able to listen to the other great bands.
As it was a festival there was delicious food, a market with handmade art and a great atmosphere in general. I am very grateful to the team of volunteers that put together such a great festival for the first time. I hope they continue on!
ROJ Sound Music Festival is a newly launched two-day music festival in Berlin, bringing modern Kurdish music culture together with the city’s diverse urban music scene. The lineup centers young and rising artists — many from the Kurdish diaspora, alongside Berlin’s own emerging musicians — giving them a stage to perform, experiment, and be seen. More than just a lineup, ROJ is designed as a space for exchange: crossing musical boundaries, learning from one another, and building new creative connections across different scenes.
